Fire in the workplace is a serious threat with the potential to cause loss of life, injury, damage to property and damage to the environment. In addition to the initial impact of the fire there is the ongoing and serious risk of loss of business, be it temporary or permanent and the inevitable insurance premium increase that will follow. Did you know, however, that most fires in the work place are preventable?
The importance of fire safety in the workplace is underpinned by several pieces of health and safety legislation. This places a duty on employers to establish both policies and procedures, conduct fire risk assessments and inspections and ensure that employees have received appropriate levels of fire safety training.
Our Level 1 Fire Safety Awareness Training Course is designed for all employees. It provides a sound introduction to fire awareness and should be considered as part of the "employment induction package" provided by companies to employees. This Level 1 qualification provides employees with a firm foundation from which to develop their basic fire safety skills and awareness and can also be used to assist their employer later with specific fire safety tasks in the workplace (for example fire risk management, Fire Marshal and Fire Warden duties).
Fire Safety Awareness Level 1 will cover some (or all) of the following:
- Legislation and documentation;
- Recognizing the cost of fire;
- The common causes of fire;
- The chemistry and behaviour of fire;
- Actions on discovering a fire;
- Fire safety precautions and fire prevention;
- How to use fire extinguishers; and
- Emergency evacuation procedures and drills
Course duration is 4 hours (depending on group size) starting at 08:30 am and finishing at 12:30 pm. Refreshments will be provided.
Candidates will receive continuous assessment throughout the training day and will be required to sit and pass a multi-choice question paper to gain the qualification. A basic level of both spoken and written English will be required.
On successful completion of the course candidates will receive a Level 1 Fire Safety Awareness Certificate which is valid for three years.
